What Is Fair Trade?

"Fair Trade" is a trading partnership, based on dialogue, transparency, and respect, that seeks greater equity in international trade. It contributes to sustainable development by offering better trading conditions and securing the rights of marginalized producers and workers.

Fair Trade is more than just trading:
  • It is a vision of business and trade that puts people and the planet before profit
  • It fights poverty, climate change, gender inequality, and injustice
  • Is a concept that showcases the enterprise models of the new economy

Fair Trade Organisations have a clear commitment to Fair Trade as the core of their mission. They, backed by conscious consumers, are engaged actively in supporting farmers and producers to achieve good working conditions and fair payment for their work and also raise awareness and campaign for changes in the rules and practices of conventional international trade.

The global WFTO membership consists of 400+ verified Fair Trade Enterprises from 82 countries.

All members of the WFTO and organizations wishing to use the WFTO Guaranteed Fair Trade label in their products are verified and audited against the 10 Principles of Fair Trade by the WFTO.
